The new, cast bronze gates at Edinburgh Gate control access to South Carriage Drive and Hyde Park from Knightsbridge. Their abstract, geometrical forms are a public art component of the recently-completed development; One Hyde Park, The Residences at the Mandarin Oriental, London, by architects Rogers Stirk Harbour and Partners. The gates themselves were designed by artist and jeweller Wendy Ramshaw, and enlarged directly from a small hand-sketch to a series of precisely engineered bronze castings that were expertly welded to form the four hydraulically operated gates spanning fifteen metres across the road and pavements.
